A man was critically injured after he jumped off the eighth-floor of a hospital at the busy Mullick Bazar Crossing in central Kolkata on Saturday.

After nearly two hours of futile attempts to save the sad patient, who had somehow made it to the hospital’s eighth-floor cornice, he ultimately jumped.

His situation is described as “very” critical.

This morning, Sujit Adhikari was accepted to the Institute of Neurosciences in Kolkata. Later on in the day, he was scheduled to be released.

According to hospital sources, the patient got into a fight with the ward guys and then slipped out of the eighth-floor window and sat on the cornice.

In an effort to save him, the state fire services department arrived at the scene with a hydraulic ladder. He threatened to leap, nevertheless, each time the firefighters approached him. Even a few of his family tried in vain to find him.

Thereafter, he was given food and cold beverages continuously. The state emergency management team had already arrived with rescue nets and airbags, so even if he jumped, his life would still be saved.

The patient, however, initially began hanging from the cornice before jumping just as the staff from the disaster management department were about to erect the rescue nets and set up the airbags.

While falling down, his body collided against the wall of the building twice. A profusely bleeding Adhikari was immediately rushed to the emergency unit where his condition is stated to be extremely critical, according to hospital sources.
